Program Goals
The goals of the program are:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of core areas of private law: Students will study foundational areas of private law,. They will explore the legal principles, doctrines, and rules that govern private relationships and transactions. They will analyze the rights, obligations, and remedies available to individuals and entities in the private sphere.
- Specialize in specific areas of private law: Students may have the opportunity to specialize in specific areas of private law based on their interests and career goals.
- Analyze legal aspects of business transactions: Students will gain insights into the legal dimensions of business transactions. They will study contract formation and interpretation, negotiation techniques, contractual rights and obligations, and the legal frameworks governing commercial relationships. They will also explore legal issues related to business entities, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
- Study legal principles related to property rights: Students will explore the legal principles and regulations governing property rights. They will examine the acquisition, transfer, and protection of property interests, including real property, intellectual property, and personal property. They will analyze the legal frameworks for land use, real estate transactions, intellectual property protection, and other property-related issues.
- Understand legal liability and tort law: Students will study the legal principles related to civil wrongs and liabilities in private law. They will examine the elements of various torts, such as negligence, intentional torts, and strict liability. They will analyze the legal remedies available to victims of tortious conduct and explore the role of tort law in promoting accountability and compensation in private relationships.
- Develop legal research and analytical skills: Students will acquire advanced research skills and methodologies necessary for conducting independent legal research in the field of private law. They will learn how to critically analyze legal literature, interpret statutes and case law, and apply legal reasoning and argumentation. They will also develop skills in legal writing and oral advocacy.
