Program Goals
The goals of the program are:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the theories and principles that inform social work practice in community development, including social capital theory, empowerment theory, and participatory approaches.
- Gain knowledge and skills in community assessment, including the ability to identify community needs, assets, and strengths through various assessment methods and asset mapping techniques.
- Understand the ecological perspective of community development and recognize the interconnectedness of individuals, families, organizations, and institutions within a community.
- Learn effective strategies for community engagement and mobilization, including building relationships, fostering active participation, and promoting community-based decision-making.
- Develop skills in program planning and evaluation, including the ability to design evidence-based interventions, set measurable goals, and assess the impact of programs on community outcomes.
- Understand the importance of policy advocacy and social justice in community development, and develop skills in engaging in policy advocacy to address systemic barriers and promote equitable community well-being.
- Explore the concepts of sustainable development and environmental justice and understand their significance in community development efforts.

Program Description
The course in Social Work with Community Development provides a comprehensive exploration of the theories, principles, and practice models used in social work to promote community well-being and sustainable development. It focuses on equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage with communities, identify their needs and strengths, and implement strategies for positive change.
Throughout the course, students will examine the ecological perspective of community development, understanding the interconnectedness of individuals, families, organizations, and institutions within a community.
